Lines After Orlando
by Jeff Oaks
Kissed a husband on the street last night. He was mine.
Who will be killed today because of it?
Said in my head the father of the killer who couldn’t tell
Anger from anguish, a boy from a bully,
An old man’s dream of safety from a death sentence
Like many Americans who interpret freedom
As never having to work again once you’ve been given
A mansion in heaven among all the people
you were allowed to imagine were beautiful.
